Pinky and the Brain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinky_and_the_Brain), are two mouses (oops! Laboratory mice), in a recent television cartoon. Most interesting in my opinion, is the antagonism between the key characters, so I will try to use them to illustrate this chronical the ideal of balance between technology solutions and simplicity.
